Book Launch of Krakatit 100 at UCT Prague
On November 28, 2024, the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague hosted the official launch of Krakatit 100, a unique book marking 100 years since the first publication of Karel Čapek’s novel Krakatit. The anthology features contributions from over thirty voices—scientists, artists, and thinkers from both the Czech Republic and abroad—many of whom gathered in person for this celebratory event.
The book’s editor, Jitka Čejková, opened the event by sharing the story behind her previous editorial project Robot 100 and what inspired her to follow up with Krakatit 100. Acting as the evening’s host, she introduced attending authors one by one, invited them to say a few words, and presented each with their contributor copy of the book.
The ceremonial godparents of the book were doc. Václav Aulický (renowned architect and co-designer of the iconic Žižkov TV Tower, and colleague of a relative of the editor) and prof. Milan Pospíšil (rector of UCT Prague).
The evening concluded with group photos, a book signing session, and lively conversation, celebrating Čapek’s vision and the interdisciplinary spirit of Krakatit 100.
